Amped A20 Comp Review: Is It the Right Upgrade?

The Amped A20 Comp is the 20-inch model I would shortlist for a confident rider who wants full suspension and more off-road capability than a standard electric balance bike.

The important question is whether your rider needs what the Comp offers. This guide explains where it fits, why you might choose it over the A20 Pro or Revvi 20, and when a different size makes more sense.

The quick answer

My Verdict on the Amped A20 Comp

Choose it for a rider who already has good control and will benefit from a full-suspension youth bike. The appeal is the combination of chassis, suspension, braking and performance.

The Amped A20 Pro remains worth considering when value matters more than rear suspension. Compare the A18 Comp or A24 Comp when a different chassis size would provide a better fit.

My buying rule: pay for equipment the rider can use, on a bike that fits them now.

Liam Garland’s perspective

What Matters to Me as a British MX2 Racer

When I assess a youth bike, I look beyond the motor figure. I want to know whether the rider can operate the controls comfortably, whether the chassis fits and whether the equipment suits their riding.

That is why the A20 Comp deserves consideration. For a rider progressing onto uneven ground, its full-suspension layout is a meaningful reason to compare it with simpler models.

A faster bike is only useful when the rider has the control to manage it. The right upgrade should support their skills and confidence.

Who it suits

Is the A20 Comp Right for Your Rider?

Established Control

The rider should already balance, turn, brake and use the throttle consistently. Confidence should come from repeatable skills.

The Correct Physical Fit

Check height, inside leg, seat height and reach. Make sure the rider can support the bike and comfortably use both brakes.

A Reason to Choose Full Suspension

Consider the ground they ride on and whether rear suspension is an upgrade they will benefit from.

Ready for More Performance

Choose riding settings around ability and introduce the bike gradually. A good physical fit does not mean the rider is ready for every setting.

For a complete beginner

I would assess the rider before recommending the Comp. The standard Amped A20 is another model to compare for a larger beginner, while smaller riders may need a different starting point entirely.

The A20 Pro is also a performance bike, so it should not automatically be treated as the beginner option simply because it costs less.

What you are paying for

Amped A20 Comp: The Features That Matter

Full Suspension

Suspension at both ends is the main equipment difference to consider against the front-suspension A20 Pro. It is particularly relevant when uneven ground forms a regular part of the rider’s use.

Hydraulic Disc Brakes

Braking control deserves as much attention as acceleration. Check lever reach and make sure the rider can use both brakes comfortably.

1000W Motor

The A20 Comp brings a performance-focused specification. Match the available riding settings to the rider’s experience and the space where they ride.

20-Inch Platform

A useful size to compare for a progressing youth rider. Wheel size alone does not establish fit: chassis dimensions and weight still matter.

Performance: Look Beyond Top Speed

A top-speed figure does not tell you whether a bike is the right upgrade. Consider how the rider uses the throttle, how confidently they stop and whether the bike suits the terrain.

The A20 Comp is worth shortlisting when a rider needs a more capable overall setup. Buying it purely to unlock more speed misses the main reason to choose the Comp package.

Suspension and Handling: The Main Upgrade

Full suspension gives the Comp a clear place in the range. If the rider regularly uses uneven off-road ground, that is a more useful buying consideration than choosing by motor output alone.

Suspension still needs appropriate setup and maintenance, and the rider needs the right technique. Better equipment supports progression; it does not replace the skills required.

Braking: Check the Rider’s Reach

The hydraulic brakes are an important part of the package. However, a brake system is only useful to a young rider if they can reach and operate the levers comfortably.

Before increasing performance, make sure the rider can close the throttle and brake smoothly and consistently. Carry out the checks required by the owner’s manual before riding.

Compare the right alternatives

A20 Comp vs A20 Pro, Revvi 20 and Other Comp Models

Which bike deserves a place on your shortlist?
Bike Why compare it? What should decide?
Amped A20 Pro A performance option when value matters more than adding rear suspension. Whether the Comp’s full-suspension setup justifies the extra spend for your rider.
Amped A20 Comp A full-suspension, performance-focused 20-inch youth bike. Rider fit, established control and intended off-road use.
Revvi 20 A larger Revvi option for general off-road riding and progression. Compare fit, equipment and current pricing against the Comp.
Amped A18 Comp A different size within the full-suspension Comp family. Whether the smaller platform gives the rider a more comfortable fit.
Amped A24 Comp A larger Comp model for appropriately sized, experienced youth riders. Actual dimensions, rider limits and control of the larger bike.

A20 Comp or A20 Pro?

Start with whether the rider needs full suspension. The A20 Pro remains a useful value comparison; the Comp earns its place when the equipment suits the riding.

A20 Comp or Revvi 20?

Both deserve consideration. Compare the rider’s fit, intended terrain and the equipment they will actually use rather than assuming one model suits everyone.

A18 Comp or A20 Comp?

Choose the chassis that fits now. A rider seeking better equipment does not necessarily need a bigger bike.

A20 Comp or A24 Comp?

Consider the A24 when more room is genuinely required. Avoid buying extra size solely for future growing room.

Strengths and Things to Consider

Why I Would Shortlist It

  • Full suspension within the 20-inch Amped range.
  • Hydraulic disc brakes.
  • A performance-focused option for confident youth riders.
  • A middle size between the A18 Comp and A24 Comp.
  • A relevant upgrade when the rider can use the additional equipment.

Check Before Choosing

  • The premium over an A20 Pro needs to suit your priorities.
  • It is not my default recommendation for a nervous first-time rider.
  • Fit, weight and control matter more than age alone.
  • The larger A24 Comp is not automatically the better purchase.
  • Suspension and brakes still require setup, checks and maintenance.
The buying decision

Is the Amped A20 Comp Worth It?

Yes, when the rider fits it, has established control and will benefit from the full-suspension package.

That is the reason I would pay more for the Comp. If the main aim is general riding on smoother ground, compare the A20 Pro and Revvi 20 before deciding.

For a confident rider who wants to develop their off-road skills on the right-sized youth platform, the A20 Comp deserves a serious place on the shortlist.

Looking further ahead?

Where Could the Rider Progress Next?

There is no need to plan another upgrade before enjoying the current bike. When an experienced rider eventually needs a different platform, I would compare EBOX V3 and the Electro & Co RTR range as electric dirt-bike options.

That should be a fresh assessment of fit, strength, control and riding location. It is not an automatic next step based on age.

Amped A20 Comp FAQs

Is the A20 Comp good for beginners?

It is primarily a performance-focused option for confident riders. A lower riding setting does not change the bike’s size or weight. For a new rider, ask us to assess suitability before choosing.

What age is the A20 Comp suitable for?

Age is a starting point, not a fit check. Compare the current product guidance with height, inside leg, reach, confidence and experience. Make sure the rider can comfortably manage the bike and controls.

What is the main difference from the A20 Pro?

The Comp’s full-suspension setup is a key distinction. Compare the complete bikes, including chassis fit, equipment and price, rather than deciding from their shared 20-inch wheel size.

Is it better than the Revvi 20?

The better choice depends on the rider and intended use. The Comp deserves attention when a performance-focused full-suspension package is the priority. The Revvi 20 remains a useful alternative to compare for general off-road riding.

Should I buy the A24 Comp for growing room?

Only if it fits and is manageable now. Extra growing room is not useful if the rider struggles with the reach, height or weight.

Does it arrive fully assembled?

Check the current product listing for the available delivery and assembly options. Complete the required setup and safety checks using the supplied instructions before riding.

Where can it be ridden?

Use suitable private land with the landowner’s permission and follow the owner’s manual. This off-road model is not for public roads or pavements. Young riders need supervision and suitable protective equipment.

Can you help me choose between models?

Yes. Send us the rider’s height, inside leg, age, current bike and riding experience. Include where they plan to ride and your budget so we can help narrow the options.
