Amped A20 Pro Review
Is this £899, 800W performance bike the sweet spot in the Amped range? Here is our honest assessment of its fit, speed, handling, battery and value.

Our verdict
The Amped A20 Pro is one of the best-value performance bikes in the Amped range. Its 800W motor, three selectable modes, hydraulic brakes and 36V 10Ah battery give a confident young rider genuine room to progress without immediately paying Comp-model money.
Its performance is also the reason it is not for everyone. For a smaller, nervous or inexperienced rider, the standard A20 is more manageable. For a confident rider around 125–150cm tall, the A20 Pro is a very strong choice.
A20 Pro at a glance
Strong performance for confident riders.
Three modes to control progression.
A more useful guide than age alone.
Substantial, but still manageable for the right rider.
Who is the Amped A20 Pro for?
Amped gives an approximate age guide of 7–13, but height, strength and experience tell you far more. The A20 Pro is best for an already-confident rider around 125–150cm tall who can comfortably manage a 20-inch platform and wants serious performance.
It makes sense if…
- The rider is confident on two wheels
- They have outgrown a smaller 16-inch bike
- They ride regularly on suitable private ground
- Hydraulic brakes and adjustable suspension matter
- You want performance below Comp-range pricing
Look elsewhere if…
- The rider is nervous or still learning balance
- They are below the suggested height range
- Up to 28mph is unnecessary for their use
- You want the lightest possible 20-inch option
- They already need a larger Comp-style chassis
Liam’s take
Fit first, performance second
The A20 Pro becomes genuinely capable off-road, but maximum speed should never decide the purchase. The right rider should be able to stand over it, reach the controls properly and handle its 19kg weight confidently before accessing the faster modes.
Key specifications
Removable lithium battery.

Approximate and use-dependent.

Hydraulic and adjustable.

Range, ride time and speed vary with terrain, temperature, rider weight, battery condition and riding style.
Performance and ride modes
The 800W motor is a clear step above the standard A20. Acceleration is stronger and the A20 Pro has enough speed to feel like a proper progression bike rather than an entry-level electric balance bike.
For controlled familiarisation and confidence building.
A meaningful step once control is consistent.
Full performance for capable riders in appropriate conditions.
Safety: Start in the lowest mode and increase performance only as ability develops. This is an off-road bike for suitable private land with the landowner’s permission. Adult supervision and appropriate protective equipment are essential.
Brakes, suspension and handling
The hydraulic brakes are one of the A20 Pro’s most valuable upgrades. They provide stronger, more progressive stopping power than the standard A20’s cable-operated discs—important as speed and rider confidence increase.
The adjustable 80mm hydraulic fork also gives the Pro a more composed feel over bumps and rough ground. It is still a lightweight youth platform rather than a motocross bike, but its chassis equipment is meaningfully better than the entry-level A20.
At 19kg, it is not especially heavy for its level of equipment, although smaller riders may still find it demanding during low-speed manoeuvres or after a stop.
Battery life and charging
The removable 36V 10Ah battery is another major reason to choose the Pro. Amped quotes approximately 45–60 minutes of ride time, up to 25–35km of range and a charge time of around 2–4 hours.
Those figures are not guarantees. Full-speed riding, hills, soft terrain, a heavier rider and colder temperatures will reduce runtime. For ordinary off-road sessions, however, the larger battery makes the Pro noticeably more usable than lower-capacity models.
Amped A20 vs A20 Pro
This is where the buying decision becomes clear: the standard A20 prioritises value and manageability; the A20 Pro prioritises performance and component quality.
| Feature | Amped A20 | Amped A20 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Motor | 540W | 800W |
| Top speed | Up to approximately 20mph | Up to 28mph |
| Battery | 36V 5Ah | 36V 10Ah |
| Brakes | Cable-operated disc brakes | Front and rear hydraulic discs |
| Front suspension | 60mm travel | Adjustable hydraulic fork, 80mm travel |
| Suggested height | Approximately 120–145cm | Approximately 125–150cm |
| Best for | Value and steady progression | Confident riders wanting stronger performance |
Our recommendation: buy the standard A20 for a rider who values lighter, steadier progression. Pay for the A20 Pro when the rider is already confident enough to benefit from its speed, braking and suspension.
Should you choose an Amped Comp instead?
The A20 Pro is the value sweet spot, while the Comp range is for riders who need a more advanced chassis and premium suspension. The A18 Comp suits riders who want Comp specification in a more compact format; the A20 Comp is the natural premium 20-inch step; and the A24 Comp is for taller riders who need the largest Amped platform.
If the rider is near the top of the A20 Pro’s height range and already rides aggressively, comparing the Comp models before ordering makes sense.

Amped A20 Pro FAQs
What age is the Amped A20 Pro for?
The general guide is approximately 7–13 years, but the more useful suggested rider height is around 125–150cm. Strength, inside-leg measurement, balance and experience must also be considered.
How fast is the Amped A20 Pro?
It has three selectable modes of approximately 9.5mph, 19mph and 28mph. Riders should begin in the lowest mode and progress only when their control and confidence justify it.
Is the Amped A20 Pro good for beginners?
It may suit a physically capable, confident beginner with careful supervision and the lowest mode selected, but it is primarily a performance progression bike. A nervous or smaller beginner may be better suited to the A16 Pro or standard A20.
How long does the battery last?
Amped quotes approximately 45–60 minutes of ride time. Actual runtime depends on mode, terrain, temperature, rider weight and riding style.
Is the A20 Pro worth the extra cost over the A20?
Yes for a confident rider who will use the additional speed, hydraulic brakes, larger battery and improved fork. If those upgrades are unnecessary, the standard A20 remains the stronger value choice.
