Find the Right Electric Bike for Your Child

From a first Revvi 12 to a larger Amped Comp, the right bike should match your child’s size, confidence and riding experience.

At Garland Powersports, Revvi and Amped are the first ranges we compare for most young riders. This guide explains which models to shortlist, what separates them and when it makes sense to move up.

You’ll also find RFN Warrior, STACYC and more advanced electric-moto options for riders whose experience and physical fit suit them.

Our Kids Electric Bike Shortlist

Start with the type of rider below, then compare the individual bike’s dimensions, weight and available speed settings.

Buying for an older beginner? Choose a bike that fits their height and offers a suitable starting mode. Being taller does not automatically mean they need a Pro model or a more powerful electric dirt bike.

Start with a bike the rider can comfortably handle, then choose the specification that suits their experience.

How to Choose the Right Size Electric Bike

Age is a useful starting point, but two children of the same age can need very different bikes. Check these four things before choosing a model.

1. Seat Height and Reach

Check the seat-height range and riding position. A beginner should be able to place both feet securely on the ground while seated, reach the handlebars and operate the brakes.

2. Bike Weight

The rider needs to manage the bike when moving slowly, stopping and leaning. A bike can have the right wheel size and still feel too heavy for its rider.

3. Riding Experience

Look at their ability to balance, brake and control a throttle. Experience on a pedal bike helps with balance, but powered riding still needs a gradual introduction.

4. Where They Will Ride

Consider the surface, available space and terrain. Rougher ground makes tyre choice, suspension and braking more relevant, alongside the rider’s ability.

Use these categories to narrow the range, then confirm physical fit and the manufacturer’s guidance for the specific model.

Our Advice: Buy for the Rider They Are Today

A little growing room is useful. A bike that is difficult to hold upright, stop or turn can make learning harder.

Start with a size the rider can handle comfortably. Choose an appropriate speed setting and let confidence develop before increasing performance.

Revvi or Amped: Which Should You Choose?

These are the two ranges we would usually compare first. Both include smaller starter bikes and larger progression options, so compare individual models rather than choosing on brand name alone.

Choose Your Revvi Shortlist

Revvi offers a broad size range, from the compact 12 through the 16, 16 Plus, 16 XL, 18, 20, 20 Plus and 24.

Start with the size that fits, then compare the standard and upgraded models available around that size.

Shop All Revvi Bikes

Choose Your Amped Shortlist

Compare the A10 and standard A16 or A20 for the earlier stages, then consider Pro or Comp models where the rider is ready for more capability.

Check each version carefully: similar model names can cover different dimensions and performance levels.

Other Electric Bike Ranges to Consider

Depending on the rider and the type of bike you want, these ranges may also belong on your shortlist.

RFN Warrior

Compare RFN Warrior if you prefer a motocross-inspired youth bike. Check each model’s physical size, equipment and performance rather than choosing by appearance alone.

STACYC

STACYC provides another electric balance-bike platform to compare alongside the smaller Revvi and Amped models. Check the exact model’s fit and intended rider guidance.

Moving Beyond a Kids Electric Balance Bike

A more powerful electric-moto platform is a separate buying decision. Consider the machine’s weight, throttle response, dimensions and intended use alongside the rider’s experience.

The ranges below cover different chassis sizes and performance levels. They should be assessed model by model.

What Else Should You Check Before Ordering?

Battery and Charging

Compare battery capacity, charging instructions and whether the battery is removable. Riding time varies with rider weight, terrain, temperature and throttle use.

If you want a spare battery, check compatibility with the exact model and version.

Brakes and Suspension

Check that the rider can reach and operate the brake levers. Compare the suspension specification with the ground they will ride on.

More equipment only helps when the complete bike remains suitable for the rider.

Assembly and Preparation

Check what final assembly is required and whether preparation options are available for the selected bike.

Follow the supplied setup instructions and complete the required checks before the first ride.

Stock and Delivery

Check availability for your chosen model and colour. Preorder arrival windows can differ from in-stock dispatch estimates.

If you need a bike for a birthday or Christmas, confirm the displayed delivery information before ordering.

Ready for the first ride: Use a correctly fitted helmet, gloves, knee and elbow protection, suitable footwear and adult supervision. Start in a controlled riding area on the lowest appropriate setting and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Kids Electric Bike FAQs

What is the best kids electric bike in the UK?

For a smaller first-time rider, start by comparing the Revvi 12 and Amped A10. For a rider needing a larger first bike, compare the Revvi 16 and Amped A16.

More experienced riders can compare the upgraded Revvi, Amped Pro and Comp models. The best choice depends on physical fit, control and where the bike will be ridden.

Should I choose a bike by age or height?

Use age to narrow the range, then check height, seat height, reach, bike weight and experience. Wheel size alone does not tell you whether a bike fits.

Our rider-height guide is a useful next step.

Should I buy a bigger bike for my child to grow into?

Allow sensible growing room while keeping the bike manageable now. If the rider struggles to reach the ground, operate the brakes or hold the bike upright, compare a smaller or lighter option.

What is the difference between Revvi 16, 16 Plus and 16 XL?

They are separate models within the Revvi range, with differences in specification and physical dimensions. A shared 16-inch wheel description does not mean they fit or perform identically.

Use our Revvi comparison guide and the individual product specifications to choose.

Should I choose a standard Amped, Pro or Comp?

Start with the rider’s size and experience. Compare standard models for the earlier stages, Pro options for additional performance, and Comp models when considering a full-suspension off-road platform.

Check each individual model’s dimensions and specification in our Amped buying guide.

Is the fastest bike the best choice?

Choose usable performance. Seat height, weight, brake control, throttle response and available speed settings all affect how manageable a bike feels.

Additional speed should follow reliable control and experience.

How long will the battery last?

Riding time depends on battery capacity, rider weight, terrain, temperature, speed setting and riding style. Hills, soft ground and repeated acceleration can reduce runtime.

Treat published runtime figures as a guide to their stated conditions rather than a guaranteed riding time.

Can I buy a spare battery?

Spare batteries are available for selected models. Match the battery to the exact bike and version, including voltage, fittings and charging requirements.

Ask us to confirm compatibility if you are unsure before ordering.

Do the bikes arrive fully assembled?

Assembly requirements vary by model and the preparation option selected. Many smaller balance bikes arrive partially assembled and need final setup.

Check the product page and follow the supplied assembly, charging and pre-ride instructions.

Are all bikes in stock?

Availability varies by model and colour. Check the selected product for current stock status, dispatch estimates or preorder arrival information.

Can you help me choose between two bikes?

Yes. Send us the rider’s age, height, current bike, riding experience and where they will ride, together with the models you are considering.

That gives us a much better starting point than age or maximum speed alone.
